15 Things To Do

Great For A Walk: This park is perfect for walks. The walking paths have a circular flow with several different routes to choose from that weave through the park and its many attractions. The width of sidewalks is wide enough for three different groups of parkgoers to walk at their own pace, in their own direction in most sections of the park. You can really get a full view of the park by just walking around using the walking paths.

Layout On A Blanket Under The Shade: It is easy to locate shade, and a nicely groomed section of grass to lay out on a blanket because there are so many large trees, and plenty of soft fluffy grass to lay on.

Outdoor or Indoor Basketball: There are 3 full-size outdoor basketball courts to play on. It is easy to find players to play mini-games, at night time it is common I see players playing full-court and half-court games. At any time you can almost always find an open half court to work on your dribble and shooting game. The courts are centrally located in the park near the greenbelt park, children’s playground, and the indoor rec center. The condition of the courts overall is great and cleaned regularly. The backboards are not glass, they are steel, and not great for banking the ball, so make sure to shoot a swoosh.

Inside the recreation center, there are additional indoor basketball courts available for a one-time drop-in fee (Typically $5), or, with an active Desert Recreation District membership you can play, included with your membership (Typically $50 per year for locals). The schedule is always changing, but you can expect basketball on the calendar 3-4 days a week inside the rec center.

Beach Volleyball: 4 sand volleyball courts are available to the public, and free to play. The courts are professionally lit for night play. The courts are consistently played during afternoon/night play, but if you camp out you can find an open court fairly quickly in most cases. The quality of the nets and sand conditions are great. On a standard night, you will find music bumping, and a generally younger crowd dominating the courts.

Indoor Pickleball: A few times a week pickleball is hosted inside the rec center on the basketball courts. The level of play is beginner, and its a excellent way to beat the heat during the summer months.

Swim At The Aquatic Center: The YMCA hosts a state-of-the-art swim facility. There is an aerobics pool, a lap pool, there is a water playground and even two sophisticated larger water slides. If you can think of it, this aquatic center has it, visit pdpool.com to learn more.

Play Tennis Under The Lights: 6 courts are available for recreational play. The lights for nighttime play are professionally done. These courts are frequently active, but you commonly will find a court free to play.

Skate Park: The only skatepark in Palm Desert, bmx bikes are half the week, and then skating splits the other half. For only $5, members have access to the skate park for the entire year.

Dog Park: Offering two sections, one for large dogs, and another for small dogs. Plenty of parking is available adjacent to the dog park area. Does get crowded during busy hours (After work hours, sundown).

Charge Your Electric Car: “Multiple L2 and DCFC in Palm Desert City Hall/Civic Center parking lot. Enter on San Pablo Ave (near the Palm Desert Visitor Center and you will see the chargers on the left. There is 1 EVgo DCFC and 5 ClipperCreek L2 chargers underneath the brush arbor. There is also 1 ClipperCreek in a side parking space.” - Daniel H (Google Review)

Children's Playground: There are two playgrounds, and a swing set. Both sections are shaded by their structure, but also by many high trees adjacent to the equipment. Centrally located within the park adjacent to the basketball courts.

Watch A Concert At The Outdoor Amphitheater: Dating all the way back to 1994, Palm Desert has been hosting “Concerts In The Park”, offering the event absolutely free of cost to the public. Concerts are held every Thursday evening, only during the months of October and May. Bringing large crowds the city brings in food trucks onsite. The city encourages concert-goers to bring their own picnic basket with food and beverages (no alcohol is allowed). Picnic blankets and lawn chairs will also help you stay comfortable throughout these events, there is plenty of greenbelt area for a large size crowd, my guess would be 500-700 humans could fit in the concert area.

Visit The Desert Holocaust Memorial: A designation to those who lost their lifes during the Holocaust. A grim, educational, inspiring, sad, and quiet section of the park. A small section of the park but packed with interesting information to learn from. I visit this quiet section of the park to contemplate my many blessings.

BBQ With The Family: Centrally within the park you will find an abducent of BBQs available to the public. I commonly will see families finding shade underneath the large gazebo structure which hosts picnic tables, and hitting or throwing a ball around the greenbelt grassland which is adjacent to the BBQs.

Play A Game Of Baseball: There are 4 fields to play, the leagues are run by pdysa.org. There is a large youth league that plays at the park, but I have never seen adults playing. When the courts are not being used for baseball they private extra greenbelt for park-goers.
